Why seek professional assistance?

There are many reasons people decide to seek additional support. Often a personal crisis motivates a person to reach out for help, but sometimes it is simply the time to make a change in your life. A chance to be a better you.

If you or a dependent:

  • Feels ‘stuck’ or is ‘struggling’, or
  • Would like to change a particularly unhelpful outlook, habit,
    behaviour, or
  • To take a chance to be a better you, or perhaps
  • Would like to review and revise your personal values, goals and
    ambitions,

now may be the perfect time to begin to make a change.

The range of issues...

… for which I typically see clients are widespread and diverse. However, here are some areas within which clients typically seek out my services:

  • Crisis Management
  • Grief and Loss
  • Depression, Anxiety, and Mood concerns
  • Stress and Time Management
  • Traumatic Events (e.g. Workplace or vehicular accidents; physical, emotional, sexual abuse)
  • Development and Life Transitions (e.g. surviving the teen years, getting married, career changes, retirement)
  • Relationship Concerns
  • Family and Parenting Issues
  • Separation and Divorce

Clients describe my approach...

…as quiet, focused and caring. Professionally, my work is best described as humanistic and client-centred, and I actively integrate a variety of targeted therapeutic techniques to help meet your goals. Depending on your concerns, your particular objectives, and your timeline, I may draw upon such coaching, counselling and therapeutic approaches as:

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Experiential Therapy
  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Client age

Individually, I typically see clients ranging from about 6 years old to seniors. Younger children interact best in a play therapy environment which allows them to explore their concerns more meaningfully. I do work with younger children in a family relations context as this allows the family to work effectively together in exploring family dynamics. In working with younger and senior clients, it is often more convenient and effective to work with them in their home, and in certain circumstances I will do home visits. Finally, depending on client needs, I may refer you to a colleague.

Ultimately, our work together...

… is a collaboration toward greater insight, awareness, presence, and confidence in your life. We are working towards an inner peace, that enables you to show genuine gratitude, acceptance and compassion within the challenges of daily life.

Through coaching, counselling, therapy or some combination of the three, I offer a broad range of services to individuals and families of all ages and cultures.

What to expect in your first session

First appointments begin with informal introductions and a brief discussion about your concerns. These are primarily a way for us both to get to know each other and share expectations. I will typically take about ten-fifteen minutes to introduce myself and my practice. We will review policies and confidentiality before we discuss any questions you may have. If you feel comfortable in working together I will ask you to sign a Practice and Confidentiality Agreement before we begin our work together.
